Parenting practices have evolved alongside our understanding of children’s social-emotional development. Historically, parenting focused on raising obedient and productive members of society and leaned heavily on authoritarian and punitive approaches. However, research indicates that balancing warmth with limit-setting is important to raising well-adjusted children, especially when the children are neurodivergent. This webinar will provide a brief overview of parenting practices over time and discuss the ways in which today’s strategies may feel different from those used just a generation prior.
In this webinar, participants will learn:
- A brief history of how and why parenting practices have evolved
- Evidence-based parenting strategies, with a focus on parenting neurodivergent youth
- How to utilize a strengths-based approach to foster growth and resilience in neurodivergent youth
