Input Needed on the Division for Early Childhood Recommended Practices

Are you a family member of a child receiving developmental and/or educational services and supports, or a practitioner currently serving children 0-5. Your input is needed!

The DEC Recommended Practices (DEC RPs) offer guidance to professionals who have or are currently working with children who have or are at risk for developmental delays or disabilities. The DEC RP’s are being reviewed with a focus on race and ability to explore their effectiveness and how they can be improved to address the needs of all children and their families across race and levels of ability. We know they currently do not, and for our process of review and change, we need your input.

South Dakota Parent Connection is excited to share a new training for parents and professionals called “Qualifying for an IEP: A Parent’s Guide to Understanding the Special Education Evaluation Process.”

This easy-to-follow training explains how schools decide if a child qualifies for special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). It breaks down the evaluation process step by step, so families and professionals know what to expect and how to work together.
