The 2025 Summer Institute invites educators, paras, special education directors, and vocational rehab counselors to a two-day professional development event at Arrowwood Resort in Oacoma, South Dakota. The institute will feature general and breakout sessions designed to support those working with students in transition. Topics include executive functioning, behavior management, career awareness, Lakota values, and firsthand student transition experiences.
This year’s keynote speaker is Sara Hento, an education attorney with a background in school administration. Featured speakers include Matthew Schwab, a public speaker and advocate with Down syndrome who promotes employment for individuals with IDD, and Jessie Taken Alive-Rencountre, a Lakota school counselor and cultural educator who uses storytelling and traditional dance to inspire and teach.
The registration fee is $125 and includes breakfast and lunch on both days. CECHs, graduate credit, and CRC credit are available. The Summer Institute offers a unique opportunity for professional growth, cultural connection, and practical strategies to support student success. Registration is available online.
