
Proposed Rules for Review
The South Dakota Department of Social Services (DSS) is evaluating the states child care licensing standards (administrative rules of South Dakota, ARSD) and processes. The State has gathered initial feedback from a small group of child care providers to help guide us in the proposed rewrite of South Dakotas child care licensing standards.
DSS would like to gather additional feedback on the proposed licensing requirements. The dates and times are below. Please contacthila.bernstein@icf.com to request the link to join.
- January 16, 2023, from 7:30-8:30 pm CST parent session
- January 17, 2023, from 6-7 pm CST – family day care and city licensed/state unregulated family day care session
- January 17, 2023, from 7:30-8:30 CST licensed child care program session (Group Family Day Care, Day Care Center, and School Age Programs)
- January 18, 2023, from 4-5 pm CST stakeholder session
- January 18, 2023, from 7:30-8:30 pm CST parent session
- January 19, 2023, from 6-7 pm CST – licensed child care program session (Group Family Day Care, Day Care Center, and School Age Programs)
- January 19, 2023, from 7:30-8:30 CST – family day care and city licensed/state unregulated family day care session

Next Steps
DSS will evaluate the gathered input and possibly make revisions to the proposed rules. Once the 2023 legislative session is completed, a public hearing will be held for a final comment period.
