Supporting Striving Readers at Home Workshop

Many children find reading challenging, and families often want simple ways to help at home. The Supporting Striving Readers at Home workshop from Learning Ally helps parents and caregivers better understand reading difficulties and learn practical strategies to support their child’s success.

In this one-hour virtual session, families will learn how the brain learns to read, how to recognize characteristics of reading challenges such as dyslexia, and ways to strengthen reading skills outside of school. The session also shares ideas for improving communication with teachers and support staff so families and schools can work together to support student learning.

Who Should Attend:
Parents, caregivers, and professionals who support students who may struggle with reading.

Participants will gain helpful information about reading challenges and learn simple strategies they can use right away to support literacy skills at home.

This 5-part, on-demand learning series helps professionals understand the transition-to-adulthood process so they can clearly explain the IEP transition plan, answer questions, and guide families and youth as they prepare for the future. Participants will learn about transition planning, assessments, services, and activities that build readiness for adulthood, and ways to support youth in developing self-advocacy skills.

Each session is practical, easy to follow, and designed to provide tools professionals can use right away. Participants who complete all training requirements will earn 1 Continuing Education contact hour.
